Pastoral Staff

Reverend Edward F. Duffy, PhD.

Dr. Duffy grew up in Syracuse, New York and Demarest, New Jersey. He graduated from Princeton, Magna Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa, in 1975. He then entered Columbia University, where he earned a Masters degree in music history. Returning to New Jersey, he earned his Master of Divinity in 1980 majoring in systematic theology from Princeton Theological Seminary. In 2000 Rev. Duffy earned a Ph.D. in theology from the Graduate Theological Foundation in Donaldson, Indiana. Before coming to Fairfield, he was pastor of the historic Congregational Church on the Green in Litchfield, for ten years. He has also served in churches in Indiana and Massachusetts.

Dr. Duffy has a special interest in early church history, publishing articles in the Princeton Seminary Bulletin and the Congregational Journal. Along with a professor of theology at Boston College, he is completing a translation of some of the writings of John Chrysostom, a fourth-century Christian. His interests beyond the church include sailing, running, hiking and squash.

Dr. Duffy is married to Lynne S. Duffy, a media specialist in the Easton Public Schools. They have two children, Brooke and Philip.



PJ Drost, Director of Christian Education and Youth Ministries

PJ is a graduate of Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts, where he majored in Youth Ministries. Before coming to First Presbyterian Church, he was the Youth Pastor at the Grace Fellowship Church in Danvers, MA, where he organized youth mission trips, developed a mentoring program for youth, and trained an adult volunteer corp. PJ is married to Brenna Drost, a special education teacher and tutor.



Laurie Birch, Music Director

Laurie did her undergraduate work in music at the University of Colorado, Boulder. She later received a Master, Music Education from the University of Bridgeport. She has studied with Dr. Louise Miller, Olga Antonuk, Rosa Rio, and later with Everett Hilty, Don Vollstedt and Cherry Rhodes.

Currently, she is teaching elementary music and chorus in the Milford School system.

She is a member of the American Choral Directors Association, the American Guild of Organists, and the National Association of Music Educators.

She came to First Presbyterian in 2002.
